Three Animations of the Developed Model

Animation 1 (Exterior)

This animation exhibits the exterior of the model, which comprises predominantly of a hard, stone material, reflecting the theme, robust.

Animation 2 (Sections)

Animation 2 shows various views of the model through various x and y section planes.

Animation 3 (Interior)

This final animation highlights the interior features and elements of the model. It follows one of the many paths that are undertaken by a member of the Revival Cycles staff.

Above Ground Studio:

This studio is dedicated to the manufacture and assembly of Revival Cycles' motorcycles. Essentially, the studio is split into an open area and a more private room. The open area is where the larger scale assembly is performed (such as placing the chassis, wheels etc.) whereas the smaller room is where the smaller components are being utilised (nuts and bolts, mirrors etc.)
There is a set of stairs that lead from outside the faciility to the above studio. This allows for ease of delivery of any components or materials Revival Cycles requires.
Since glass is plentiful in the top studio, artificial light is not crucial.

Below Ground Studio:

For Revival Cycles, this studio is utilised for the conjuring or refinement of ideas and plans. Multiple tables and office desks are available for employee use. Light sources are placed in the studio as insufficient amounts of natural light can be received (since it is below ground). When the plans are complete, the employees circulate from this studio to the upper studio through the two sets of stairs.

Section of the Model:

In this model, numerous custom textures were incorporated to add some unique dimensions to the building

Dynamic

This texture was extensively utilised on the interior walls of the structure to add a more radiant, interesting element, rather than a single dull colour. This pattern highlights the persona of Revival Cycles as they are not portrayed as bland and ordinary, but rather dynamic and cutting-edge.

Bold

This custom texture was used on the treads of the spiral staircase running from the datum to the top studio. It contributes to the theme, robust, as the black rectangle represents a sturdy foundation piece, surrounded by less strong substances.
'Bold' can also be interpreted in conjunction with the 'Dynamic' texture to imply an image of Revival Cycle that reflects innovation and sleekness.

Rigid

'Rigid' is used on the staircase leading from the datum to the bottom studio. In any successful structure, there must be a very rigid, solid foundation. This texture embodies that notion and is hence utilised primarily in the below-ground region.

Stairs for the Developed Sketchup Model

Close-up Images of the three sets of stairs in the developed model.

This thick spiral staircase allows circulation from the datum to the uppermost ground, whilst passing the mezzanine level. The staircase is purposely very dense in order to reinforce the robust, sturdy appearance.

This set of stairs is much lighter than the one above. However, the height between each tread is larger in the stairs below, illustrating more 'power' than the stairs above as it establishes a hierarchy within the model. These stairs deliver individuals to and from the datum and lower studio.

The stairs below lead to the above studio. They are primarily utilised for ease of delivery of motorcycle components and goods.
This set of stairs is very wide in comparison to the other sets of stairs and immediately evoke sturdiness. After each progressing tread, it is evident that the width of the treads are steadily decreasing, leading to a hierarchy-like appearance which illustrates a distribution of power.

Draft Sketchup Model 2 Experiment 1

This is the Google Sketchup Model that will be developed further for the final submission.

Since this entire model is dedicated to Revival Cycles, the top and bottom studios will have distinct operations. In the above ground studio, the motorcycles are assembled

36 Custom Sketches

This post consists of 36 sketches of textures according to the designated word (situated above the texture). They are categorized into three sections: Above ground, Between (Datum) and Below ground.

18 SKETCH SECTIONS

This blog post contains 18 sketched sections revolving around the words from two clients-Revival Cycles (Power, Accelerate, Robust) and Steinway and Sons (Passion, Contemplate, Intelligent).
Each building contains the studios of the two clients as well as a datum (middle ground), where their works are placed on display.

Video of the Public Utilizing Stairs and Escalators

This video simply highlights the use of stairs for circulation of the general public. Stairs are not only classified as static elements; they can also be moving, which is exhibited through the escalator (adjacent to the stairs in the video below).

Before the First Class+ 3 Clients and Their Words

Best Creative Work: Drawing of the Lands Department, Sydney.

For the course, Architecture History and Theory 1, I was required to sketch the Lands Department in Sydney. I decided to draw the main facade as it possesses a lot of detail which provided me with a challenging task. A lot of time was dedicated to thinking about the most efficient means of completing this drawing (for example, by noticing the obvious patterns and orientations of the columns).

This drawing netted me a high distinction for the assessment, which was the highest I have achieved in any architecture assessment task and I am proud of the outcome.

Wat Rong Kun in Chiang Rai (Thailand)

Wat Rong Kun is a contemporary, unconventional Buddhist Temple in Thailand. When glimpsing its exterior, Wat Rong Kun embodies very traditional religious principles. For example, the structure is coated in white paint which symbolises Buddha's purity. Surrounding the main building are sophisticated sculptures of demons, skulls and severed heads, attempting to blemish the purity of the main temple.
What makes Wat Rong Kun interesting is its interior, which does not contain the conventional temple features. Instead, contemporary icons of popular culture (such as murals of Batman and Superman) are aplenty within the temple walls and these scenes are slightly adjusted to fit a Buddhist context.

Wat Rong Kun is an extraordinary structure which displays different symbols and meanings on either side of the temple walls. The exterior follows a conventional, very religious motif whereas the interior hints to contemporary culture, which is more light-hearted.

My Original Photograph: Borobudur Temple in Jogjakarta, Indonesia

In January 2014, I travelled to Jogjakarta and as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, I toured the Borobudur Temple. Within each layer and successive floor, a tale is being told. The images on the bas-reliefs portrayed many scenes of everyday eighth century life in Ancient Java in a number of roles (commoners, royalty etc.)
I noticed that a vast majority of the Buddha statues had been vandalized as the heads, noses and arms have been detached from these sculptures, which is sickening to see as they hold such paramount significance to the Borobudur Temple and the city of Jogjakarta.
